Question: How does the identity authentication process work?
Answer: LeaseRunner passes your name, address, date of birth, and SSN to Experian (using SSL encryption). Experian searches its records to determine if there is a person with those identifiers. If there is a match, Experian will serve 4-5 multiple choice questions from your credit history.
The questions can take many forms, but they are often something like, "What is the name of your mortgage lender?" or "On which street did you live in 20XX?" or "What make and model of car did you purchase in 20XX?".
Correctly answering the questions will confirm that you are who you say you are and pass you through the Identity Authentication process.
Once you are an authenticated property manager in LeaseRunner, you can order credit report screening requests from your applicants.
Per Experian, your authentication period lasts for approximately 90 days. After the 90 day period, you will have to re-authenticate your identity again in order to request credit report screens from applicants again.
LeaseRunner's rental applicants must do the same authentication when they complete the tenant screening request for a credit report. That is how Experian knows the applicant is who they say they are.
